At present the library collection includes nearby 10 million shelving units. The half a million collection of unique national documents published in Belarus from the early XIX century to present day, and also editions and other sources about Belarus, including foreign, are of a special value. The library keeps more than 90 thousand rare and early printed books and manuscripts the earliest of which dates from the XIV-XV centuries. Among them there are the assembly of editions of Belarusian first printer Francisk Skorina – 10 issues of the Bible which initiated the Belarusian book publishing.

Isle of Tears

n the bend of the river Svisloch a little humpbacked bridge leads to the "Island of courage and sorrow" which the citizens of Minsk call "Island of Tears." Here, on August 3, 1996 a monument to "Sons of the Motherland, who died beyond its borders" was opened (the authors of the monument: Y. Pavlov, N. Korolev, T.Koroleva-Pavlova, V. Laptsevich, G. Pavlov, O. Pavlov, D. Khomyakov ).

Victory Park

The park near Lake Komsomolskoye features the Isle of Birds wildlife reserve and beautiful illuminated fountains. People can take a walk along the shore of the lake, and those who prefer more active recreation can ride along the bikeway and swim in a usual or twin-hull boat.
