If your trip budget is a bit limited there’s no problem if you are visiting Belarus. Here’re some tips how to make your trip to Belarus purse-friendly:

Low-cost Accommodation.

That’s easy to find reasonably priced accommodation in Belarus, especially in Minsk. Prices for hostel dorms start from US$ 15, privates with a shared bathroom will be more expensive – from US$ 18.

Eating out.

The cheapest suggestion on eating is to buy food in supermarkets. In some of them decent food can be bought in ready-to-eat sections. However eating out can also be easy on the pocket. The average bill in some cafes, bistros and fast food restaurants is no more than US$ 10.

Transport.

Public transport is relatively cheap in Minsk (3 one-use tickets for US$ 1), in regions it’s even cheaper. If you’re going to visit some places of interest outside the capital, go by train if possible. Railway network covers most of the territory of the country and offers reasonably priced tickets.

Free entries.

Visiting museums, galleries and other tourist attractions in Belarus is not at all expensive (some places can be visited for only US$ 1.3). And they can be absolutely free, if you choose the right day. Here are some hints:

  • The National Art Museum in Minsk – free entry on the last Wednesday of every month.
  • The Belarusian State Great Patriotic War Museum in Minsk – free entry on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.
  • The Belarusian State Museum of National Architecture and Culture (not far from the capital) – free entry on the 2nd Wednesday of every month.
  • Niasvizh Castle – free entry on the 1st Monday of every month.
  • Mir Castle – free entry on the last Monday of every month.
  • House-museum of Adam Mitskevich in Novogrudok – free entry on the last Thursday of every month.

Apart from that a lot of Belarusian sights can be visited for free all year round. Check out the ruins of Krevo Castle, Novogrudok Castle, Halshany Castle, Ruzhany Palace. Hervyaty Cathedral, St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Hrodna, Corpus Christi Church in Niasvizh and other religious constructions of great cultural value are also free for visitors. So are various art galleries in Minsk.
