At present the library collection includes nearby 10 million shelving units. The half a million collection of unique national documents published in Belarus from the early XIX century to present day, and also editions and other sources about Belarus, including foreign, are of a special value. The library keeps more than 90 thousand rare and early printed books and manuscripts the earliest of which dates from the XIV-XV centuries. Among them there are the assembly of editions of Belarusian first printer Francisk Skorina – 10 issues of the Bible which initiated the Belarusian book publishing.

The National Library of Belarus both generates its own electronic information resources and purchases them from leading world producers providing easy access to national and world information resources. The library equipped with modern engineering and technical systems uses the latest information technologies satisfying, at the qualitatively new level, educational, scientific and cultural requirements of society and forming the documentary memory of the nation.

Today, in conformity with its mission, the National Library of Belarus solves both traditional problems concerning safekeeping of the cultural documentary heritage, and new ones such as the development of an electronic library and formation and use of corporate information resources. The library, functioning as a social and cultural center, develops the traditions of a cultural and educational establishment of universal significance and promotes the humanization of society. The user service as part of the social and cultural activity is based on the opportunities of a well thought-out infrastructure providing the satisfaction of leisure and cognitive needs of users.
