Handling Emergencies

Medical

When travelling to Belarus, it’s not necessary to immunize against any special diseases. When staying here one should take reasonable care, the same as elsewhere in the world. However if you’re planning to discover Belarusian natural assets, it’s better to take some special measures against ticks, which may cause tick-borne encephalitis:

  • wear long-sleeved tops and long trousers (tucked into socks);
  • apply insect repellent containing DEET to  exposed skin;
  • check your body for ticks regularly;
  • avoid drinking milk and unpasteurised dairy products.

If you fall sick when travelling you may:

  • go to a pharmacy (remember, that in Belarus it’s not possible to buy no prescription medicines in supermarkets, all types of medicines can be obtained in pharmacies only);
  • go to a private medical centre ( there it’s possible to consult a doctor on a paying basis);
  • call 103 (in serious cases, if you need an ambulance).

Police

The overall crime rate is low in Belarus, however if you’ve become a crime victim, call 102.
