In late 1940, it was decided to transfer the theater in Minsk. But this was prevented by the war. In 1943, the theater re-established as a front-line base in Moscow. Theatre worked in Mogilev, then in Grodno. Since 1947 - firmly established in Minsk. In 1955 the theater was named Maxim Gorky Theater. Central place ranked Russian classics: "Philistines", "Children of the Sun", "Vassa Zheleznov" by Gorky, "Optimistic Tragedy" by Vishnevsky, "Power of Darkness" by Leo Tolstoy, "Virgin Soil Upturned" by Mikhail Sholokhov, "Masquerade" by M. Lermontov, "Three sisters" and "Uncle Vanya" by Anton Chekhov.

At present, the theater troupe includs a galaxy of remarkable actors. Its repertoire now includes 30 performances, productions of Belarusian, Russian and world classics and modern foreign and domestic authors. The theater has its own special art form, highlighted the high level of acting performance, originality of director's interpretations, a deep approach to the development of the repertoire. The National Academic Drama Theater of M. Gorky is one of the centers of theatrical art, an integral part of the cultural life of the country, a national treasure of the country.
